Helena Industries announces the appointment of Russell A. Cargo as their new President and CEO. One of the largest nonprofit organizations in the Helena area, Helena Industries provides case management, job training, and employment services for over 900 persons with disabilities. Cargo, an experienced expert in the nonprofit field, joins the staff at Helena Industries to fill the vacancy in that position following the retirement of Wally Melcher in June 2014.
“Russ Cargo has a wide range of executive experience leading nonprofit organizations, exceptional academic credentials, and over 20 years’ experience consulting with nonprofit organizations. We are very fortunate to find someone with this level of nonprofit executive experience,” said Andy Utick, Chair, of the Helena Industries Board of Directors. A resident of Helena since 2008, Cargo has taught nonprofit management and fundraising courses at Carroll College and has been active in numerous nonprofit organizations here. He currently serves as the Chair of the Board of the Montana Nonprofit Association and he is on the Board of Governors of the Montana Club. Cargo has a master’s degree in business administration from Boston University and a Ph.D. in public administration with a concentration in nonprofit management from the University of Colorado.
“The CEO position with Helena Industries is an exciting opportunity to work with our exceptional and highly dedicated staff to provide independence and dignity to the lives of people with disabilities.” Cargo said. “Our task is to see that people with disabilities have the opportunity to flourish according to their own individual capacities. My job is to make sure we are doing all we can to ensure Helena Industries’ programs are client-focused, well funded, and are forward-looking to ensure we are training people for the jobs of the future.”
