Montana Career Development Services

We help people with disabilities find jobs with community employers. By being aware that every employee needs to be an asset to their employer, we work hard to ensure that each employment arrangement is a good fit for both the worker and the employer.

Our Job Placement Program determines a person's interests and skills. We help the individual find a potential employer. In some instances, we provide on-the-job assistance as the person with disabilities moves into their new position.

Through the Work Experience program, an individual temporarily tries out a job. The try-out period is usually less than 30 days. During this time, the individual’s true interest in the job is assessed and whether they need assistance in preparing for the job. Helena Industries pays for wages and Worker's Compensation during the Work Experience assessment. To participate in this program, the person must be enrolled with the Montana Vocational Rehabilitation Program.

The Supported Employment Program provides continued assistance when needed. An individual may get help from a Job Coach in learning new skills, getting acquainted with co-workers, and meeting their employers expectations.

On-the-Job Training is provided to individuals who need additional training to learn a job once they are employed. The Vocational Rehabilitation Program reimburses the employer a percentage of the worker's wages during the training period. The training period can last from 10 days to 12 weeks depending on the worker's skills, abilities, experince, and job complexity.

The Montana Career Development Services is assisted by the

Helena Industries Job Placement Council (JPAC).

JPAC is comprised of community business partners and others who are interested in helping people with disabilities (consumers) find employment. The council regularily meets to share information concerning vocational needs for consumers. Members share ideas for locating job leads, learn about incentive programs, and conduct informational interviews.

If you are interested in becoming a member or know someone who is interested in becoming a member of JPAC, please contact Ona at 406-442-8632.
